At night, when things are quiet and everything seems dark, it’s often hard to remember that God is working on our behalf. This is when the enemy likes to creep into our heads trying to feed us lies. He seems to own and feed in the darkness.
Personally, I hear that we’ll be homeless in a few months. I am reminded that I have nowhere to go and no one to help. I am reminded that repairs are needed, haircuts are wanted, holidays are coming, and so much more. I know the income is short and the bills are getting higher.
I keep reminding myself to trust… but in the darkness of night, it’s hard to remember The Light.
GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR.
What if the promises and truths we knew to be true during the day were the same things we remind ourselves of when it’s dark? God is not sleeping at night, He is ever close and ever-present. We just have to hold tightly to His promises.
I’m reminded of the story of Jesus fast asleep in the boat (in Luke 8). A fierce storm struck the lake that they were crossing. His disciples began to panic when the boat was filling with water. After Jesus calmed the storm, He asked them, “Where is your faith?”
Obviously, they had left the knowledge of His faithfulness back at shore. Jesus had brought them thus far, had not left them yet, why would He now?
The same goes for you. God has been faithful to you, bringing you safely out of a bad (probably abusive) marriage. He has been with you the whole time, and He will continue to be with you in the future.
Let’s see what the Scriptures have to say…
God’s promises to the divorced woman.
1.) GOD WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU. NEVER WALK AWAY. NEVER ABANDON YOU.
He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you. – Deuteronomy 31:8b NLT
For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” – Hebrews 13:5b NLT
2.) GOD IS WITH YOU AND GOES BEFORE YOU. HE IS A HELPER.
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. – Deuteronomy 31:8a NLT
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 NLT
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. – Isaiah 43:2 NLT
3.) GOD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU. AND PROTECT YOU.
The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. – Exodus 14:14 NLT
You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to Me, I will surely hear their cry. – Exodus 22:22-23 ESV
Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation – Psalm 12:7 NLT
Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy. – Psalm 68:5 NLT
4.) GOD CARES FOR YOU.
He will redeem them from oppression and violence, or their lives are precious to Him. – Psalm 72:14 NLT
The Lord protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but He frustrates the plans of the wicked. – Psalm 146:9 NLT
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. – 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
5.) YOU ARE GOD’S CHILD.
But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. – John 1:12 NLT
And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ, we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share His suffering. – Romans 8:17 NLT
See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know Him. – 1 John 3:1 NLT
6.) GOD WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU.
The Lord will not let the godly go hungry. – Proverbs 10:3a NLT
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? – Matthew 6:25-26
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. – Philippians 4:6 NLT
7.) GOD HAS A FUTURE AND A PLAN FOR YOU.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything He does. – Psalm 33:4 NLT
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. – Proverbs 16:9 NLT
8.) GOD WILL RESTORE AND REDEEM YOU.
But the Lord will redeem those who serve Him. No one who takes refuge in Him will be condemned. – Psalm 34:22 NLT
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. – Joel 2:25 ESV
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. – 1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT
9.) JESUS SAVES YOU!
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me. – John 10:28 NLT
When God our Savior revealed His kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of His grace He made us right in His sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. – Titus 3:4-7 NLT
10.) GOD LOVES YOU!
For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. – John 3:16 AMP
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. – 1 John 4:16 NLT
