When we as empaths came into this world our souls chose a journey that we knew would fulfill our calling here on this planet. Many remember being sensitive from the time they were children. The stories are all very similar when you ask an Empath what they experienced as a child and what the world felt like. For many, it was a very confusing time because they were feeling bombarded with different feelings and emotions that were not their own. Many empaths claim to be people pleasers or codependent because it just makes their life easier to just help things to go smoothly.
The incredible thing about an empath is that when they start to intuitively feel that something is going on in a relationship, they are usually 100% on the money. They can sense things long before their partner might ever start to mention anything is going on. It’s important to honor this powerful ability.
If you are newly in a romantic relationship or thinking about venturing out into the dating world, it’s so important to remember a few key points that will help you to maintain a sense of inner peace. Peace is important when going into the world because it helps us to make clear decisions, stay grounded and to see situations with clarity and discernment.
Tips for Dating and Romantic Relationships as an Empath or Highly Sensitive Person
1. Don’t allow your romantic partner to demand more than feels comfortable for you. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of a new relationship, and since we want to see people happy because it feels better for us, we must remember to hold our boundaries and just give what we can and what feels safe for us to give. We have a decision to make in every moment so that we help ourselves to stay grounded and centered.
2. Allow your romantic or love partner to express themselves in any way that they need to. Highly sensitive people really want to help their partners to feel good all the time. Sometimes it’s better to just let that person have the hard experience for their own growth. As painful as it is to standby and do nothing, it’s for the best of everyone involved.
3. Find a place to get away to if you need to center yourself.Being your best self is about taking care of your needs first and foremost. No one ever helped anyone else if they were already struggling and miserable. If you are feeling triggered or scared, the worst thing you can do is act out of fear. The best thing you can do is to find a place to reconnect to the power of divine Spirit and to allow that love you have for life to reemerge.
4. Be patient and allow yourself to learn and make mistakes. So many empaths and highly sensitive individuals experience a high level of perfectionism. This comes from always being highly attuned to the energy of the room or the moods of our parents when we were growing up. If things felt awry, we learned to adjust our behavior to not make waves and keep the peace. This doesn’t allow for much learning though as we put unrealistic demands on ourselves to be everything for our romantic partner. Patience is also the nature of the Universe and we learn to grow in leaps and bounds by being kind to ourselves.
Finding inner peace is the focus of your work as an empath. It is paramount if you are going to function in the world at large. This is why: energy flows in the direction of least resistance. If you’re stressed out and feeling bogged down with other people’s energy, then you are blocking the flow of the natural direction of energy. This causes health problems along with other stressful consequences.
Even in the most stressful of situations, it is important to breathe. If you are having a disagreement with your partner and you feel the stress of the situation starting to make your muscles contract, breathe. This is something that we can do anywhere and anytime. 4 seconds on the inhale, 4 seconds
holding the breath, and 4 seconds on the exhale is the ideal breath pattern to create a feeling of peace.
Allow the peace of the Universe to find it’s way into your life. This is the most relaxed place you can find and that place is actually the most powerful place! Functioning at your highest potential, especially in romantic relationships, is in your place of joy and relaxation!
